Poznámky

Henry was the first of this family to come to this country. In 1638 Henry Adams settled in Braintree, massachusetts, as a small freeholding farmer, and from him the family traces its descent.

HENRY, Braintree, came from Devonshire, England, it is said by Alden and others, in 1630, but probably not so early; settled at Braintree, where he d. 8 Oct. 1646, leaving sons, Henry, Samuel, Thomas, Peter, Joseph, Edward, and two others. To his memory is erected in Quincy, by his illustrious descendant, John Adams, a monument with an inscription, from which the following is extracted: "In memory of HENRY ADAMS, who took his flight from the Dragon persecution, in Devonshire, England, and alighted with eight sons near Mount Wollaston. One of the sons returned to England, and, after taking some time to explore the country, four removed to Medfield and the neighbouring towns; two to Chelmsford. One only, Joseph, who lies here at his left hand, remained here, who was an original [?] proprietor
